ALABAMA STONEWARE CHURN, alkaline-glazed, approximately four-gallon capacity, cylindrical form with slight shoulder, having galleried rim with inner seat, three applied handles including an applied arched tab-form example to one side and opposite with two strap-form examples with tapering lower terminal at top and bottom, unglazed bottom. Circa 1880. 16 1/2" H, 7 3/8" D rim.
Catalogue Note: According to Willett and Brackner, the presence of a second "strap handle toward the bottom of the churn" is a unique characteristic of Alabama examples.

Condition

Having a two minor flakes to arched handle and a rim hairline extending from rim to base.
