AMERICAN INITIALED AND DATED "PINEAPPLE" VARIATION APPLIQUE QUILT,
hand-stitched, 12 pattern blocks of green and red fabric applique on white ground, all-over diagonal straight-line quilting, all four sides with plain white border featuring running plume and floret quilting along three sides and diagonal straight-line quilting at top edge, applied probably fugitive colored fabric binding, three-paneled plain backing. Embroidered "J.S.[M?...] 1862" along one edge of top.
Dated 1862.

Provenance: From the collection of Bob and Dixie Moore, Deer Park, MD.
Mostly in very good overall condition, top with some light toning and light fading, scattered spotting and a few stains, green fabric with fugitive spots of blue, binding with wear and tears to all sides, backing with some light toning and stains. Some faint original tracings for quilting present, as made.
