AMERICAN PICTORIAL NEEDLEWORK SAMPLER, wool on linen, having four rows of alphabet above a seven-line poem and "Sarah Whalen Sampler / December the 2 1824", lower half featuring two brightly-colored birds above a cottage flanked by trees, encompassed by a Berlin-work floral border. Housed under glass in a later frame. First half 19th century. 21 1/2" x 15 1/2" sight, 23 3/4" x 17 3/4" OA.
Condition
Losses to wool thread including several letters and in the border, light toning, small stains, a few small losses to linen, primarily at top edge. Date possibly added later. Not examined out of frame.
