AMERICAN, POSSIBLY PENNSYLVANIA, FOLK ART PAINTED-WOOD HOTEL SIGN, oval double-sided form with bentwood frame, lettered "BLACK HORSE HOTEL" above a running black horse, "T. D. MOHR," and a Masonic compass and square between "1868". Original iron hanging support to one end. Retains its original dry-painted surfaces. Dated 1868. 24" x 34".
Catalogue Note: A Black Horse Hotel was located in Kutztown, PA, and was one of the oldest hotels in the town. However, we could find no reference to T. D. Mohr as an owner. Although there were a number of Mohr family members living in the town.

Condition

Good as-found condition with visible paint losses, cracking, and losses to the frame, eye screws added to one side.
