AMERICAN, PROBABLY BALTIMORE, PAINTED FANCY SIDE CHAIRS, SET OF FOUR, each of modified gondola form, the crest rail having pierced, scrolled ears above an urn-form splat, turned posts having beehive bases, and old woven-cane seats, raised on saber-form front legs and turned rear legs. Together with a similar armchair having the same rear post turnings. Each with old, but not original black-painted surfaces decorated with an eagle, laurel leaves, and a lyre. Five pieces total. Circa 1840. 32" HOA, 17 1/2" H seat.

Condition

Very good solid condition, the armchair with repairs to the crest rail and splat, the remainder with no notable repairs, losses to the paint, one heavy.
