AMERICAN SCHOOL (19TH CENTURY) FOLK ART LANDSCAPE DRAWING OF HUDSON RIVER VALLEY, charcoal and chalk on sandpaper, depicting a landscape view, foreground featuring a field of hay or crops to the left bordering a road with a group of buildings on the other side and rows of trees, background shows the river with two figures on a boat and a sailboat, trees lining the shores and mountains in the distance, signed possibly "J Miles[?]" and dated "22" in the lower left corner. Housed under glass in a modern frame. Dated 1822. 13 3/4" x 9 3/4" sight, 21 5/8" x 17 5/8" sight.
Provenance: Property of a West Virginia gentleman.
Condition
Very good visual condition with a tear and a stain at top left corner, possible tears or scratches along right side, a few other scattered light scratches, frame with minor wear. Not examined out of frame.
