A Popular Dictionary of Arts, Sciences, Literature, History, Politics and Biography, Brought Down to the Present Time; Including a Copious Collection of Original Articles in American Biography; on the Basis of the Seventh Edition of the German Conversations-Lexicon., volumes I-XIII. Philadelphia: Carey & Lea, 1830-1833. Each ink signed "S.H. Lewis" at top of title page and pencil signed "S.H. Lewis / Lewiston / Rockingham / Virginia" with date on one flyleaf. Matching full-leather bindings with gilt-stamped spines.
Provenance: From the Nancy and Colin Campbell library, Williamsburg, VA.
Catalogue Note: General Samuel Hance Lewis I (1794-1869) was born and died at Lewiston, Lynnwood/Port Republic, VA. He served in the War of 1812 and was one of many Lewis family members to serve in the wars for American Independence.

Condition

Very good condition, interiors tight and with scattered foxing/toning, boards with some scuffs and several with surface losses, one spine pulled at top, general wear.
