ANTIQUE PECK & SNYDER LAWN TENNIS SET WITH CASE, incomplete set, including four Peck & Snyder tennis rackets with waxed threads featuring two 12 1/2 oz. and two 13 1/2 oz., a Horsman Tether tennis racket, a net, stake rope, wood stakes, and a set of seven original score cards, elongated rectangular wooden case with brass handles to each end and a hinged lid having applied printed image of a game of lawn tennis with "Peck & Snyder / Celebrated Lawn Tennis" in red lettering, lacking key. Late 19th century. Case 39" x 15 1/4" x 9" OA.
Condition
Fair to very good overall condition with expected usage wear and other imperfections; tennis rackets with breaks and losses to thread; netting with possible tears; case with moderate to heavy surface scratches notable to top, a few age cracks including along the length of lid back edge, interior image with losses, one interior divider with losses along one side and separated from nails, missing key.
Deaccessioned by the Valentine Museum, Richmond, VA to benefit collections care, preservation, and future acquisitions.
