ANTIQUE / VINTAGE 14K GOLD AND ENAMEL DAUGHTERS OF THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION (D.A.R.) AND RELATED PINS, LOT OF FOUR, comprising two Daughters of the American Revolution pins by or retailed by J.E. Caldwell & Co. of Philadelphia, PA consisting of one marked 14K gold pin engraved to back with "Elizabeth Catherine / Gallaher Levy / 43536", and the other testing as 14K gold fineness with possibly silver distaff engraved to back with "Eliza Horsey Custis / 55221", a pin for The Colonial Descendants of America that is engraved "JULIET HITE GALLAHER / 122" to back, and a round pin featuring a Colonial woman figure by Bailey, Banks & Biddle of Philadelphia, PA for the National Society of The Colonial Dames of America being engraved "J.H.G. / 1255 / VA" to back. Each marked "14K" or tested as 14K gold fineness. Total weight including non-gold components: 17.2 grams. Late 19th/first half 20th century. One D.A.R. pin 1 1/2" x 1" OA.

Catalogue Note: Eliza Horsey Custis was born around 1841 in Somerset Co., Maryland to parents John Arnold Elzey Horsey (1810-1841) and Sarah Ann Custis (1818-1867), she married William Park Custis (1835-1900) of Accomac Co. Virginia
Elizabeth Catherine Gallaher was born around 1856 in Waynesboro, Virginia to parents Hugh Lafferty Gallaher (1812-1886) and Elizabeth Catherine Bowen (1818-1896), she married John B. Levy (1854-1923). She died in 1940 and is buried at Riverview Cemetery in Waynesboro.
Juliet Hite Gallaher was born on June 16, 1871 in Virginia to parents William Bowen Gallaher (1840-1911) and Amelia Frances Briscoe (1845-1911), her aunt was Elizabeth Catherine Gallaher Levy. She was a noted genealogist, and her collection of papers is located at William & Mary Special Collections Research Center. She died in 1951 and is also buried at Riverview Cemetery in Waynesboro, VA.
