ANTIQUE / VINTAGE GILT-BRASS / -METAL BELT OR DRESS BUCKLES, LOT OF 13, each two-part form having gilt-brass or gilt-metal frame, including three buckles with matching centers of a pair with scrolls and flowers along the edges and one with openwork ends having Art Nouveau motifs, a pair of shaped buckles with scrolled wreath-type decoration, an Art Nouveau buckle with flower basket center and openwork edges, an Art Deco buckle with woven-type design, a small buckle with a mesh backing, a larger buckle with crescent-form mesh insets presented on a black ribbon belt/sash, and a large openwork buckle with bird motifs. Buckle with mesh backing having mark of "ROYAL" within a shield topped by a lion probably for Royal Jewelry Mfg. Co. of New York City, NY and "PAT. PEND'G" on clasp, remainder unmarked. Fourth quarter 19th/first half 20th century. Bird-motif buckle 3 1/2" x 2 1/2" OA.
Most in good to very good overall condition with some wear, surface scratches, and other imperfections including worn spots/losses to gilt finishes, one or a few spots/areas of oxidation, some bending, and/or one or a few repairs mostly to terminals of bars on backs; one of pair of shaped buckles with wreath-type decoration lacking both bars on back.
