ASSORTED MAHOGANY SEWING BOXES / CONTAINERS, LOT OF TWO, each with a pincushion top and lower drawer, one example with bird-cage type construction for holding spools, drawer fitted with several needle packets, steel scissors and a figural strawberry emery, underside of base impressed "3480"; remaining example with a lift-off top which reveals seven interior metal spool post, facing with four bone eyelets, underside of the drawer with an illegible pencil signature and date of "1922", each with a later velvet covered fabric pincushion. Late 19th/early 20th century. 7 1/2" and 8 1/2" HOA.
Provenance: From a Charlottesville, VA estate.
Very good overall condition, each with expected usage wear, bird-cage example with some warping to one corner, top with a split at the edge, remaining example lacking two finials.
