BALTIMORE, MARYLAND DECORATED STONEWARE CUSPIDORS / SPITTOONS, LOT OF TWO, salt-glazed, each of waisted cylindrical form, comprising a designated one-gallon capacity example with rectangular drain hole and remaining example with pronounced foot and ovoid drain hole. Each having brushed cobalt decorations including one featuring dropped feather ornament repeated three times below rim with underlined "1" capacity mark adjacent to drain hole and remaining with horizontal three-leaf sprig "turkey foot" ornaments full round, additional faint cobalt band/line below rim. Circa 1870. 3 1/2" H, 6 3/4" D rim and 3 1/8" H, 7 3/4" D rim.

Condition

Three sprig example having faint hairline across base and some scattered minute flakes to mouth of drain hole; one-gallon example having some filled-in restoration to rim chips.
