CANADIAN CUT-AND-PASTE PAIR OF SILHOUETTES, each a bust-length depiction, one inscribed verso "John Rotton / Leamington", and the other inscribed verso "William Rotton / son of John Rotton / Taken about 1820". Each housed in a period, possibly original, reeded oval frame, without glass. Circa 1815-1830. Each 3 1/4" x 2 1/2" sight, 4 1/2" x 3 3/4" OA.
Catalogue Note: John Rotton (1772-1846) was born in Buckinghamshire, England, and moved with his family to Leamington, Ontario, Canada, sometime in the early 19th century. William Rotton (1800-1864) appears to have been born in Canada and operated an inn, "The Queen's Arms Hotel" in Maitland, Ontario.
