CHARLEY ROSS PICTORIAL PERFUME BOTTLE, colorless, pinch-waisted form embossed on one side with a depiction of the famous, unfortunate kidnapping victim Charley Ross holding a stick-and-hoop toy with "CHARLEY ROSS" embossed above, and at rear with a beaded-surround circular label panel, applied thin banded mouth. Circa 1874. 5" H.
Catalogue Note: The 1874 kidnapping of Charley Ross was a media sensation at the time, one of the first "true crime" stories of its sort to capture the public's interest. The media frenzy led to Charley's face plastered everywhere that year, including embossed on this perfume bottle, in hopes of locating him. The case remains unsolved, and Charley's fate has never been confirmed.

Virtually undamaged with a very shallow flake at upper edge of lip, and some interior dirt and residue.

Collection of the late Al and Billy Steidel, Alexandria, VA.
