CHILDREN'S ANIMAL NURSERY RHYME / POEM TEXTILE, printed on cotton, or possibly linen, whole panel, featuring a grid of nine vignettes depicting various images of animals with corresponding poems / nursery rhymes, animals comprising the cow, elephant, horse, Newfoundland dog, sheep, polar bear, camel, cat, and goat. Textile mounted on fabric, housed under acrylic in a modern frame. First half 19th century. 31 5/8" x 28" sight, 33 1/4" x 29 3/4" OA.
Catalogue Note: Many of these poems / nursery rhymes are found in 19th century infant and nursery school books and magazines, including David Stow, Moral Training, Infant and Juvenile, Glasgow: 1834; T. Bilby and R.B. Ridgway, The Infant Teacher's Assistant, London: 1834; and The Glasgow Infant School Magazine, 1832.

Condition

Good visual condition with overall toning, scattered holes and some losses mostly to dark ink, notably in the camel vignette with stabilization to corner, frame with minor wear. Not examined out of frame.
