CHINESE EXPORT PORCELAIN KANGXI PERIOD BLUE AND WHITE VASE WITH STAND, baluster form, featuring hand-painted scene depicting figures emerging from a covered structure including one astride a horse, having an ebony wood stand with presentation plaque reading: "TO: / MR. & MRS. U. G. FRONDORF / BEST WISHES FOR A / MERRY CHRISTMAS & HAPPY NEW YEAR / From / THE CHINESE STAFF OF / THE AULT & WIBORG CO., (FAR EAST) / SHANGHAI / 1936". Four character Kangxi period mark to underside. 19th century. 14" H, 4 3/4" D rim.
Catalogue Note: Urban George Frondorf (1894-1968) was listed as General Manager and President for Ault & Wiborg in Shanghai in the Asia, Directories and Chronicles Relating to Government Agencies and Foreign Nationals, 1917-1941. The Ault & Wiborg China Company dealt in the business of printing and lithographic materials, manufacturing and importing inks, paper, and printing machines. In 1936 (the year the vase was presented), Frondorf was married to his first wife, Elsie H. Heltemes.

Condition

Vase undamaged, having some minute remnants of probable applied red wax Chinese seal below shoulder; stand having shrinkage crack. Manufacturing flaws including vase with some glaze imperfects and bumps to body, as made.
