CHRISTIAN MERTEL (PENNSYLVANIA, 1739-1802) DAUPHIN CO., PENNSYLVANIA FOLK ART FRAKTUR BIRTH AND BAPTISMAL CERTIFICATE, watercolor and ink on paper, center heart-form reserved with inscription for Sussanna, daughter of Gorg Mostt (Moltt?) and Barbara, who was born on May 6, 178[4?] in Dauphin Co., PA above a stylized tulip, three sides featuring 11 numbered hearts with verses and leaf or wing-type motifs. Unframed. Circa 1784. 16" x 12 3/4".
Condition
Fair as-found condition with toning, scattered spotting and stains, laid down on an 1870 Dayton, OH newspaper, "The Missionary Vistor", several tears and some losses.
