CIVIL WAR CONFEDERATE COVERS TO CAPTAIN EDWARD R. BAIRD, LOT OF THREE, each with CSA 10-cent stamp and Charlotte CH blue postmark, one sent care of Major General Pickett, Petersburg, VA, one with faded letter. Together with another cover having CSA 10-cent stamp addressed to Staunton, VA. Four pieces total. 3" x 5 1/2" OA.
Catalogue Note: Edward Rouzee Baird Sr. (1840-1931) first served as sergeant in Co. F, 9th Virginia Cavalry. In 1862 he was detailed to Gen. George Pickett's staff Feb. 19, 1862 and was promoted to Capt. and aide-de-camp in 1863. He participated in the Battle of Gettysburg and was part of the "Staff" who surrendered with Lee at Appomattox, VA in April 1865.
