COFFMAN FAMILY ATTRIBUTED, ROCKINGHAM CO., SHENANDOAH VALLEY OF VIRGINIA DECORATED STONEWARE JAR WITH COVER, salt-glazed, approximately two-gallon capacity, tall ovoid form with flat-top rounded rim and applied arched handles. Brushed cobalt crown of thorns-style design to front, additional cobalt at handle terminals. Probably Andrew Coffman (1795-1853), working at his Beldor site, Elkton, VA area. Mid 19th century. 13 3/4" HOA (including cover), 7 5/8" D rim.
Jar in excellent undamaged condition, cover with flake to underside edge.
