EARL TOWNSHIP, BERKS CO., PENNSYLVANIA FOLK ART FRAKTUR BIRTH RECORD, watercolor and ink on paper, for Maranda, daughter of Daniel Schwebely and Judith, who was born on June 13, 1858, the central inscription flanked by foliate and floral elements including two tulips, heart at bottom center. Unframed. Circa 1858. 8" x 10".
Catalogue Note: Identified as Maranda (Miranda) Schwebely (Swavely) who was born in Earl Township, Berks Co., PA to parents Daniel Schwebely (Swavely) (b. 1838) and Judith Imbody (Embody) (1821-1909). She married Harrison R. Bortz on November 19, 1883 in Pottstown, PA, but her husband deserted her in 1888 leading her to get a divorce. Maranda remarried in 1896 to Mahlon E. Houck (b. 1873), who was 15 years her junior. She had at least one son, Daniel Bortz, from her first marriage and another son, Edward Hauck, from her second marriage. Miranda died on May 2, 1942 and is buried at Saint Pauls Church Cemetery Amityville, Berks Co., PA.
Good overall condition with fading and toning, proper left side edge with a 1 1/4" tear having tape support to back, top center edge with a short tear.
