EFFINGHAM EMBREE (NEW YORK, 1759-1817) FEDERAL INLAID MAHOGANY TALL-CASE CLOCK, (updated 11/29/2023) brass eight-day movement, false plate marked "OSBORNE'S MANUFACTORY" in Birmingham, England, hand-painted sheet-iron dial signed "Effingham Embree / New York", case featuring pagoda-style bonnet with inlaid spread-wing eagle to tympanum, arched door flanked by fluted columns fitted with brass capitals and arched side lights, above figured waist door flanked by fluted quarter columns, raised on an applied cut-out bracket-foot base, line inlaid decoration throughout, highlighted by inlaid quarter fans and stylized capitals. Retains two weights, pendulum, winding key, and an old surface with rich color. Circa 1800. 96" HOA.

Condition

(Updated 11/29/2023) Very good overall visual condition with minor scattered wear and cracks to case. Minor scattered repairs to veneers, inlay, and moldings. Bottom board and blocking for feet replaced. Interior frame around dial likely replaced (concealed by bonnet door when closed). One column detached but present, along with brass fittings. Dial with minor inpainting affecting small portions of signature and ground, moon phase dial with heavier restoration, one hand detached but present. Seat board probably replaced.
