EHRE VATER ARTIST (PENNSYLVANIA, ACT. C. 1782-1828) FOLK ART FRAKTUR BIRTH AND BAPTISMAL CERTIFICATE, watercolor and ink on laid paper, center heart-form reserve with inscription for Thomas Faust, son of Gorg Faust and Catharina Paulin, who was born on October 20, 1803 in Hanover Township, Northampton Co., PA, below with a three-line prayer, all surrounded by colorful floral devices, sides featuring two parrot-like bird perched on the leaves of tulips, lower edge with a line of trees, verso with probably later pencil inscription of "Taufschein / won / Thomas Faust". Unframed. Circa 1803. 13 7/8" x 16 3/4" OA.
Catalogue Note: Thomas Faust was born to parents George Faust (1769-1852) and Catharina (Catherine) Paulin (Paul) (1778-1817). He married Anna Biery (1805-1865) some time before 1830, and the couple had at least one son. Thomas lived in Lehigh Co., PA most of his life, settling in South Whitehall and Allentown. He died on August 18, 1889 and is buried at Union-West End Cemetery in Allentown, PA. 

Fair to good as-found condition with toning, scattered spotting and stains, some tears including to center vertical and horizontal, area of loss along proper right side at center, a small loss to center, and at one tulip leaf, edges with tears and losses, verso with two applied paper supports.
