EMANUEL SUTER ATTRIBUTED, ROCKINGHAM CO., SHENANDOAH VALLEY OF VIRGINIA DECORATED EARTHENWARE / REDWARE MONEY BANK, lead-glazed with splashes of manganese iron oxide, jug form with cut-out coin slot below a button-like finial, strap handle. Emanuel Suter (1833-1902), New Erection Pottery (1866-1890), west of Harrisonburg, VA. 1870-1890. 5 1/8" HOA, 2 5/8" D base.

Catalogue Note: According to tradition, Suter produced these banks for use in local Sunday schools. Several examples are known that have descended directly in the Suter family and bear ownership signatures under the bases.

Having a chip to finial and loss of strap handle. Manufacturing flaws including a small hole to bottom, as made.
