EMBOSSED LEATHER CASES WITH AMBROTYPE / TINTYPE IMAGES, LOT OF 33, each having floral or geometric designs, comprising one sixteenth plate example, seven ninth plate examples, 19 sixth plate examples including one depicting a fair-haired gentleman stamped "VANNERSON" to brass mat and one depicting a young girl with her pet dog, and six quarter plate examples including one depicting an older couple identified in note as being Edmond and Susan Poulson of Accomack County, VA having "VAN LOAN / GALLERY / 159 CHESNUT ST / PHILADA" embossed to velvet inset. Second half 19th century. 2" x 1 3/4" to 4 5/8" x 3 3/4".
Catalogue Note: Julian Vannerson (1827-aft. 1875) was a Richmond photographer primarily known for photographs he captured of Robert E. Lee in 1864 and General J.E.B. Stuart in 1863.

Condition

Each having some expected wear, many with moderate imperfections including detached front and back covers and some images flaking; three ninth plate examples, six sixth plate examples, three quarter plate examples lacking covers; some having taped repairs to spines.
