FINE AND RARE AMERICAN FEDERAL INLAID MAHOGANY VALUABLES / DRESSING BOX, an outstanding example of exquisite craftsmanship, featuring an elaborately appointed interior with divided tray and mirror, single short drawer below false drawer, and unusual applied ogee bracket-foot base, the whole exhibiting contrasting figured veneers and extensive inlaid decoration throughout, including geometric reserves, shaded quarter fans, complex stringing, and a chain-like motif consisting of intersecting ellipses running along the perimeter of the lid. Poplar and mahogany secondary woods. Probably Baltimore or Annapolis, MD. Circa 1800. 5 1/4" H, 11 1/4" x 6" base.
