GERMAN WESTERWALD "GR" DECORATED STONEWARE MUG / JUG,
salt-glazed,
ovoid form with incised neck rings, having an incised "8" to shoulder, sprig-molded Georgius Rex medallion featuring crown above "GR", rounded handle with hole at top, and ringed foot. Incised rayed sun encircling "GR" flanked by two feather-like designs, having rich cobalt fill to decorations.
18th century.
5 1/4" HOA.
Provenance: From a Virginia private collection.
Excellent visual condition having some professional restoration to rim and foot. Manufacturing flaw including stone pop below handle, as made.
