Catalogue Note: Born in San Francisco, Gordon Hope Grant (1875-1962) studied at the Lambeth & Heatherley Art School in London, moved to New York City as a young man, and began exhibiting his work regularly. A prolific artist known for his marine work, Grant worked for Harper's at the end of the 19th century and produced illustrations for a number of publications over his career.
