HAWKEN CONTEMPORARY PLAINS-STYLE LONG RIFLE, approximately .50 caliber, percussion, tiger maple halfstock with steel end cap and buttplate, carved cheekrest with inlaid German silver oval, rifled octagonal barrel marked "J & S HAWKEN", double set trigger, lockplate with engraved decoration, period ramrod. Possibly made from a kit. Circa 1960s. 51" LOA, 34" L barrel.
Catalogue Note: The Hawken Shop was opened in the 1960s by Art Ressel after obtaining original tools and machinery of Jake and Sam Hawken of St. Louis, MO and was closed in the 1980s. Mr. Ressel sold the entire shop to a small family business in Washington State, and they reopened in the 1990s.
