Catalogue Note: John Edwards Holbrook (1796-1871) was an American physician, zoologist, herpetologist, and naturalist. He is considered the Father of American Herpetology. According to Sabin, this work is "worthy of a place in the library of naturalists beside of Audubon and Wilson."
Very good condition, interiors are mostly clean and tight, with scattered instances of moderate foxing, volume 4 hinges partially broken, tissue guards appear intact, bindings with expected wear, volume 4 lacking top of spine.
