LABELED GEORGETOWN, DC DOCUMENT BOX, the leather-covered wooden box having brass-tack decorations, the hinged lid concealing a canvas-lined interior, retains its original brass bail handle to the top and iron hasp and lock to the front. The lid interior bears its original oval printed label "SADDLES & HARNESS, / (spread-wing eagle) / AND TRUNKS, / MADE AND SOLD BY / JOHN LUTZ, HIGH-STREET, GEORGETOWN, District of Columbia." Circa 1820. 4 3/4" H, 10" x 6". 
Catalogue Note: John Alexander Lutz (1775-1841) operated his shop on what is known today as Wisconsin Avenue. His obituary described him as "One of our oldest and best citizens."

Condition

Fair as-found condition with losses and staining to leather, most upper tacks intact, label in very good condition.
