MAYO'S AND PATTERSON'S, RICHMOND, VIRGINIA ADVERTISING CUT PLUG TOBACCO TINS, LOT OF TEN, lithographed, comprising four Mayo's tins for P.H. Mayo & Bro. consisting of two pails / lunch boxes with hinged handles and latch closures, a canister with a "RICE" label insert to one side, and a rectangular box, and six Patterson's Seal tins for R.A. Patterson Tobacco Co. / The American Tobacco Co. featuring three pails / lunch boxes with wicker basket design and hinged handles, a later/reproduction small rectangular box with wicker basket design by Deldan Inc. of Italy, and two rectangular boxes decorated as trunks, a few with remnants of tax stamps. Late 19th/first quarter 20th century, and later. Mayo's canister 6 1/4" HOA, 4 7/8" D base.
Fair to very good overall condition with wear, surface scratches, and other imperfections including flakes and losses to lithograph, areas of rusting, one or a few holes, and/or denting; one Patterson's Seal pail/lunch box lacking latch closure.
Deaccessioned by the Valentine Museum, Richmond, VA to benefit collections care, preservation, and future acquisitions.
