MID-ATLANTIC DECORATED STONEWARE JARS, LOT OF TWO, salt-glazed, each of cylindrical form, comprising a "3" gallon capacity mark example with flat-top rounded rim and applied arched tab handles and an approximately half-gallon capacity example with squared rim. Each with brushed cobalt decorations including one featuring dropped feather design repeated five times from neck and remaining with horizontal floral design to each side, additional cobalt to handle terminals. Second half 19th century. 8 7/8" H, 4 3/4" D rim and 14 3/8" H, 6 3/4" D rim.
Smaller example mostly undamaged, except having rim with a hairline and a minor chip and two flakes and some areas of staining; "3" gallon example having chips to each handle, one moderate, and some glue-like residue to exterior. Each having manufacturing flaws including glaze imperfections, larger example with firing separation to rim interior and stone pops, and smaller example with indentation/kiln kiss to one side, as made.
