MONTAGUE J. DAWSON (BRITISH, 1890-1973) NAUTICAL SCENE, watercolor on paper, a dynamic composition of impressive size featuring two clipper ships at full sail in rolling seas, signed lower left, retaining original Schwartz Galleries label giving title as The Great Tea Race and describing a 16,000-mile contest in 1866 between two English clipper ships carrying tea from China, the present work depicting Ariel and Taiping "racing up the English Channel" near the end of their journey. Housed in a modern frame. Second quarter 20th century. 20" x 29" sight, 29 1/4" x 38" OA.
Excellent overall visual condition with very minor discoloration. Not examined out of frame.
