OO-23 DIAMOND AND PLUME OCTAGON OBLONG PRESSED OPEN SALT, swirling light to medium blue, shaped rim, serrated base edge. Very rare. Possibly Pittsburgh area. 1835-1850. 1 1/2" H, 2 3/8" x 3 1/4".
Literature: Neal, Pressed Glass Salt Dishes of the Lacy Period, p. 191.
Catalogue Note: This is only the second example of this salt that we have sold, suggesting it is rarer than the designation assigned by Neal. The other example was from the Breckel collection.
Near proof having only a few minor flakes to the outer rim at one end and a hint of mold roughness.
