PETERSBURG, VIRGINIA WHISKEY MERCHANT'S ADVERTISING JUG, Bristol-glazed, designated three-gallon capacity, cobalt stenciled "FILL THIS JUG / AT / RAHILY'S / PETERSBURG, VA." within a decorative frame. First quarter 20th century. 16 1/8" HOA. 
Catalogue Note: William John Rahily was born in 1872 to Irish and American parents living in Petersburg, VA. In the 1900 census, Rahily's occupation was listed as a "saloon keeper". By 1910, he was listed as a "liquor dealer" and owning his own establishment. William Rahily died in 1922 and is buried in St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Cemetery in Petersburg.

Condition

Having a chip to mouth, shoulder having some scattered flakes and a mostly shallow approximately 2" L chip.
