PRESSED LOOP / LEAF PAIR OF VASES, brilliant deep violet blue, each deep seven-loop bowl with conforming rim, raised on a seven-loop circular base, wafer construction. One factory polished under base. Probably Pittsburgh area. 1845-1860. 9" H, 5 1/8" D rim, 3 7/8" D foot.
Literature: The McKearins - American Glass, p. 388, pl. 201, fig. 39. Like Elsholz, lot 1263.
Catalogue Note: It is likely that this style of Loop vase with Loop foot is the Midwestern version of the Sandwich version with hexagonal base. Both versions are very rare.
Excellent condition, one with a shallow chip to edge of foot and minor flake to top of foot, along with roughness under the foot associated with the snap ring, as made; other example with polishing to edge of foot, most probably done at factory, and a shallow chip to edge of foot.
