RARE DIMINUTIVE VIRGINIA CHIPPENDALE WALNUT DESK AND BOOKCASE, the slender form of two-piece construction, upper case featuring applied cove-molded cornice over two raised-panel doors retaining likely original brass H-form hinges, interior with three fixed shelves, lower case with hinged slant lid concealing complex interior fitted with central prospect door, open cubbies, and small drawers of serpentine profile, over four graduated drawers flanked by solid ends, the whole raised on an applied ogee bracket-foot base. Poplar, oak, and possibly cedar secondary woods. Retains likely original hinges and an old surface with rich color. Reserve. Fourth quarter 18th century. 84" HOA, 37 1/2" WOA, 18" DOA.

Condition

Very good overall condition with minor scattered wear and discoloration. Scattered minor wear and losses to drawer lips. Cracks and minor repairs to fall board and case at hinges. Prospect door lacking escutcheon. Brass pulls likely replaced.
