ROCKINGHAM GLAZE FOUR-PART FIGURAL SHOE INKWELL / DESK SET, mottled brown, splotched and splattered with lead and manganese glazes over yellow/buff earthenware, molded in the form of a colonial-style shoe with detailed buckle and square toe, having two removable inkwells and a sander which fit neatly into the body, likely all original. North American or English. Mid to late 19th century. 3" H, 8" LOA.

Condition

Very good condition overall, sander undamaged, shoe itself excellent with scattered wear and a couple small chips around rim; both inkwells with heavy chipping and scattered flaking/glaze loss across surface, and larger inkwell with black staining.

From the private collection of John and Val Tull, York, PA.
