SHENANDOAH / ROCKINGHAM CO., SHENANDOAH VALLEY OF VIRGINIA WALNUT BLANKET CHEST, lid with applied moldings attached with through-mortise joints on ends and strap hinges, above the dovetailed case with interior lidded till, raised on a boldly cut-out base with full-height dovetailed bracket feet. Yellow pine secondary wood. Retains an early, possibly original surface with warm color. An unusual feature of this chest is the foot glue/support blocks which are mortised through the bottom of the case extending 5" into the interior, a Germanic feature. Late 18th/early 19th century. 26 1/2" H, 46 1/2" H, 20" D.

Very good overall condition, some old repairs the feet, but nothing replaced, small crack at one corner of lid, areas of expected minor wear.
