SHENANDOAH VALLEY OF VIRGINIA DECORATED EARTHENWARE / REDWARE BOWL, double lead-glazed, deep form with rounded rim and beaded foot. Slipped cascading decoration to interior walls in the tradition of the Adams family. Probably Hagerstown, Maryland or New Market, Virginia. 1830-1850. 3" H, 9 1/2".
Catalogue Note: Christian and Jacob Adam introduced this style of Hagerstown slipped decoration to New Market around 1810. It is thought that both Andrew and John Coffman learned the pottery trade from the Adam brothers.
