SOUTH CAROLINA MILITIA BELT PLATE, slightly bowed sheet-brass plate with clipped corners, with an applied stamped nickeled-brass insignia featuring the state's Palmetto tree at the center with two oblong shields resting against it bearing the state motto and the date 1776 centered at its base, reverse with clinched brass pins to secure the insignia and tongue-type hook. Circa 1840. 2 3/16" x 3". Together with a "Letter of Authenticity" signed by Steve E. Mullinax, author of Confederate Belt Buckles & Plates.

Very good condition, nickel worn on insignia, some discoloration to the brass, back with a spot of light corrosion and a slightly bent loop.
