SOUTHERN SCHOOL (20TH CENTURY) FOLK ART PAINTING OF A TENNESSEE SCHOOL, oil on artist's board, depicting an African-American teacher with pupils standing in front of a log cabin, surrounded by trees, "Kirk School / Bulah [sic] Tenn." written in the lower center, dated along the bottom edge, including a later hand-written note that reads in part, "Kirk was a Black 1-room school in an old Log Cabin. It had 4 students and one Teacher in 1941. The High School Graduation for the children in this Picture was 11 Black students". Housed in the original pine frame with later added foam board backing, back with an old applied label to lower corner. Dated 1941. 23 1/2" x 17 5/8" sight, 27 5/8" x 21 3/4" OA.
Very good overall condition with some areas of minor craquelure, some scattered surface losses. Frame with minor wear, slight separation at corners.
