SPITZER SHOP, NEW MARKET, SHENANDOAH VALLEY OF VIRGINIA KENTUCKY-STYLE PERCUSSION LONG RIFLE, approximately .37 caliber, figured tiger maple full-stock with interrupted forestock molding, four-piece engraved and pierced brass patchbox, toeplate also with engraving, German-silver ornamentation comprising engraved elongated star to the carved cheek rest, two German-silver barrel-pin plates, and engraved thumbrest, unmarked rifled octagonal barrel, lockplate stamped "SPANG & WALLACE / PHILADELPHIA", double set trigger, period ramrod. Attributed to Charles Spitzer (1807-1862) or his father Henry Spitzer (1768-1841), New Market, Shenandoah Co., VA. Circa 1830. 55" LOA, 39" barrel.
