STAFFORDSHIRE AMERICAN HISTORICAL TRANSFER-PRINTED CERAMIC PLATE, featuring the Arms of "RHODE ISLAND", depicting a shield with an anchor resting on a rock with crashing waves below, having "HOPE" printed above, and vine and flower border decoration. Marks to underside include impressed "T MAYER / STOKE", printed American eagle grasping ribbon with "E PLURIBUS UNUM", and "2". Thomas Mayer, Stoke, England. 1826-1838. 8 1/2" D.
