STAFFORDSHIRE HAND-PAINTED PEARLWARE FIGURES, LOT OF THREE, each decorated in the round with underglaze polychrome colors, comprising a 3 1/4" H open-bottomed Pratt-decorated man leaning against a stump, arms and legs crossed, holding a handkerchief, and wearing a long-tailed coat and hat, and a seated bocage pair comprising a woman, entitled "WIDOW" on base, with a standing child by right side and holding a pile of sticks in left arm with barrel at feet, and a man, entitled "ELIJAH" on base, feeding a black bird on left side and gazing toward the heavens. Late 18th/early 19th century. 11" HOA.

Catalogue Note: Bocage pair based on the biblical story (1 Kings 17:7-16) describing how Elijah sought a miracle to take care of the destitute widow of Zarephath and her son.

Condition

Pratt figure having Y-shaped hairline on back with some characteristic minute flakes to base; bocage pair having very good visual condition, each with professional restoration; widow with minor losses to bocage, having minor wear to nose and pitcher; Elijah having minor wear to toes. Some having manufacturing flaws including kiln kisses, as made.
