STRASBURG, SHENANDOAH VALLEY OF VIRGINIA GREEN-GLAZED EARTHENWARE / REDWARE CREAM JUG / PITCHER, copper-glazed over a slip wash, squatty ovoid form with a flaring rim, collared neck, beaded neck ring, and applied strap handle. Probably Jacob Eberly (1830-1908) and Daniel Letcher Eberly (1859-1919), or S. Bell & Son (active 1882-1915), Strasburg, VA. 1886-1903. 3 3/8" HOA, 2 3/4" D rim.
As-found condition with breakage and repair to collar and handle, one repaired break extends about 3/8" below the beaded neck ring; some roughness to the bottom edge and glaze pops, likely as-made.
Sold to benefit the acquisitions and conservation funds of a private Virginia museum.
