VALLEY OF VIRGINIA PAINTED POPLAR PUNCHED-TIN-PANELED FOOD / PIE SAFE, sideboard form, the top featuring an applied boldly cut-out dovetailed gallery, the sides having scratch-beaded top edges, above two dovetailed, scratch-beaded drawers with original turned wooden knobs, and two doors, each having four tin panels hand punched with a six-point star and elliptical designs, and four matching tins to each end, the whole raised on turned feet. Poplar secondary wood. Retains its original dry mustard- and black-painted surfaces. Circa 1840. 52" HOA, 47" H top, 49 1/2" x 22 1/2".

Condition

Good overall condition, the rear feet are replaced, mouse hole to one drawer, scattered small losses to the tins, patch to post at one hinge, visual wear and losses of paint.
