VERY FINE PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA CHIPPENDALE CARVED WALNUT DRESSING TABLE, the rectangular two-board top with molded edge, notched corners, and generous overhang above single full drawer and three short drawers, each with thumb-molded profile, flanked by fluted quarter columns at corners and shaped skirt below, the whole raised on cabriole legs ending in finely delineated ball-and-claw feet, exhibiting exuberant Rococo-style carving throughout, including central shell flanked by foliate devices at sides and pendant shell below, acanthus-carved knees and returns. Poplar, pine, and cedar secondary woods. Retains period, possibly original, "pine tree" brasses and an old surface with warm color. Circa 1770. 30 1/4" H, 36 1/2" x 20 1/4" top.
