VICTORIAN AND ART NOUVEAU VELVET / FABRIC EMBROIDERY WATCH HUTCHES / STANDS, LOT OF TWO, each intricately shaped papier mache cutouts with velvet and embroidered-fabric fronts with leather backs and folding stands, comprising one bronze and gold-toned smaller example in the form of a ladies' fan with embroidered initials "GS", and a larger blue example with central crescent moon shape with scrolling lower edge and fanned feathers above, with embroidered florals to the front. Each with accompanying pocket watch, the smaller with a 7-jewel watch marked "ELGIN" to dial, and the larger with an 11-jewel example marked "Illinois Watch Co." to dial. Various makers. Late 19th/early 20th century. 8 1/2" H smaller, 13 1/2" HOA.
Very good condition with some expected wear and slight losses to surface of velvet, age-related discoloration to fabrics, and some cracking to the leather at rears; smaller hutch having a repair to its stand at rear with visible separation around leather, and the ribbon for the stand is held together by tape. Smaller pocket watch lacking a glass cover, the larger watch having some corrosion or oxidation to exterior.
