VIRGINIA DECORATED STONEWARE PITCHER, salt-glazed, inverted "3" gallon capacity mark, bold ovoid form with incised rings below tapered neck, applied grooved strap handle. Brushed cobalt quadripartite feather decoration to front, flanked by two additional feathers to shoulder, five parallel "V" to spout, having "1739 HN (or HK)" adjacent to handle, additional cobalt to handle terminals. Possibly Joseph Silber (1827-1890), probably at Emanuel Suter's New Erection Pottery (1866-1890), west of Harrisonburg, Shenandoah Valley of Virginia; or at Rawley Springs, possibly in partnership with George M. Woods. Second half 19th century. 14 3/8" H, 5 1/4" D rim.
